The Next Generation

I said, "Son, when you grow up what are you going to be?
what are you going to do?"
He answered, "Daddy, when I grow up I want to be just like you!"
I laughed and said, "No, son, I want you to grow up to be better
                        than me..."
He said, "Really?"  And I said, "Yes!  And twice as much better:
                       you'll see!"

Over the years I showed my son all I knew and taught him God's way
I'll never forget the day he knelt down at the altar and prayed
And all on his own too: I didn't ask him to do it...he just did it
                       from his little heart
He simply repented and God filled my little boy with His Spirit
and gave him a new start!

My son was baptized not long after that wonderful day
I just cried and thanked God in the midst of thunderous praise
As I get older I realize I won't be around this old world forever
It's time to train, to equip and pray for the next generation

I see a mighty young army united for The Lord
Marching toward the goal for souls... going forward... forward
