The Gift of 922

Many years ago father you gave me
a gift
I remember the joy I felt I couldn't contain myself
My very own new shiny trumpet no longer dull and rented
I see now that the gift was from God Who sent it

Talents nurtured through
dedicated patient teachers
Played in band, orchestra and "pep band" in the bleachers
Movie music, marching band and even some awesome jazz
But always, always no matter what we played I had a blast!
Trumpeting together beautifully
blending in hard-earned harmony
Brass, woodwinds and percussion in a thundering symphony
Then...the years came when my trumpet sat on a shelf
In some ways what happened then couldn't be helped
Then in that wonderful year
when I was born again
Jesus reminded me of the gift He gave me "way-back-when"
I took that trumpet out and cleaned up all the stains
And thank God by His grace I haven't stopped playing since!
