The Gathering

Homeless and poor people standing in line, waiting for hours for a free hot meal
For some kids, it's their only source of food and the only time their belly is full
The funny-strange thing is these kids and most of the adults are thankful and polite
They know the food was donated and made just for them, so they are nice

Prideful and rich people standing in line, waiting after shopping for hours
Food piled high along with things they already have (these are seconds and thirds)
The funny-strange thing is these people are impatient and rude (not nice!)
They know they're buying this food with THEIR money and with THEIR TIME

The contrast of these 2 Americas is plain to see
We are so blessed and cursed with so many stores, so many things
Material distractions detours our thoughts from reaching out to the poor
Jesus said the poor will always be around us: from them we learn
                  His compassion and more

The next time you are standing in line, waiting, waiting, thinking
Remember the homeless and poor people are standing and waiting too
at a ministry called The Gathering
