The Firefighter's Bible

My cell phone rang with a very special ringtone at work that day
"Proud to be an American" trumpeted from my phone as it rang
People looked at me but I just smiled as I answered it
What happened next was something I will never forget
When I hopped into my truck to hurry to the fire station
Dread and fear overcame me as I realized the fire's location
The address they announced was MY street, it was MY house
I immediately thought of my new family, and my spouse
I called my wife several times but the lines were all jammed
So I joined my brothers in the fire trucks to make our stand
When we arrived the flames were coming out of all the windows
But we were not deterred by the heat or the thick pouring smoke
I couldn't help myself and fought my way into my house first
I helped blast the flames with the hose and feared the worst
We made our way into the kitchen and I couldn't believe what I saw
Right there in the midst of the flames my Bible lay untouched
It was a sign from God that even though I lost many things that day
Jesus saved my wife and my kids: He is worthy to be thanked, and praised!
