Pride is like a fence

I built the fence around my life with pride
I'm determined not to let anyone inside
I'm better than anyone under the sun
It's all about me-- "I'm number one"

But:  the Good Book gives this simple instruction:
Pride goes before destruction
And that's not all:
A haughty spirit goes before a fall

Pride is like a fence we build around our lives
An arrogant attitude feeds on itself with hateful pride
But when we're drawn to The Lord at his feet in humility
We tear down the pride-built fence because we want to be free

Humble yourself in the sight of The Lord
And go to the ones you've hurt so much
Ask for forgiveness with a tender spirit
You'll feel Jesus' Holy Spirit and
                      His tender touch
