Decades of Deference

Decades of deference serving his queen's every wish,
Very early on, he learned that her family comes first:
Her sons and daughters families took first priority.
He just went along to get along--it was sad to see--
Almost like a ghost he would sit in the corner and observe,
As the queen and her family laughed at all things absurd--
Always the outsider he really never felt like part of them,
And if he said anything the queen would simply silence him--
Elderly now, he lays in the hospital room in great pain,
He cannot clearly see now because of the tears and the rain,
His son shows up every day while the queen sits home hoping--
She doesn't know what to think or do without him --coping--
Finally a flashback of good times
helps him through the pain this time,
When he and the queen laughed and
danced and cried together--all night--
