The Anguished Animal

Cowering in the corner of the cold basement
Cruelly chained and unable to defend itself
Waiting....waiting....waiting for some fresh food
Even just a little new water would be good

The unhappy "Master" screams with intent to harm
In his frustration and anger he strikes out at the dog
Mercilessly he pounds out at his worst fear
On the little friend that he once held dear

Limping, then whimpering in the dark
The anguished animal forgot how to bark
Finally he drops down onto the cold tile
After his "Master" leaves he finally can smile.

In the end all the dog wants to do is love unconditionally
        And he waits.....waits.......waits.......for the same
