Labor Day 2005: A Victorious
Vacation

This weekend our family and friends had all
planned to be together
But a week ago our plans changed because of the weather
Hurricane Katrina hit U.S. like a weapon of mass destruction
Almost everything and everyone was destroyed in mass disruption
I had no idea that when I enlisted to protect
our great country
That I would be serving to save our own citizens who had to flee
What a mess: and to begin to think how each one had to choose
I understand that....that more you you've got, the more you've got to lose
I see the sadness and sickness and in the
midst of it a smile
One lady even hugged me and thanked me before we rescued her child
Another day goes by and more starving people are found
They had no idea that this was The Big One: it wrecked an entire City....
and hundreds of towns
In the end I heard about prayer rooms and
impromptu church services
forming at the shelters across the nation
Faith, hope and love are alive and well, making this Labor Day
a labor of God's love: a victorious vacation
