Bob and Marcia's Reconciliation
Characters: BOB – Crabby man MARCIA – Bob’s curious, sweet and
innocent wife MURRAY – Bob and Marcia’s mutual friend
Summary: Murray
stops by Bob and Marcia’s house to video record their testimony.
(Bob and Marcia are sitting on two comfortable chairs, center stage.
A small table sits between the chairs, with a small antique lamp.
Marcia is crocheting, while Bob is reading a newspaper. We hear
knocking coming from stage right.)
MARCIA Come on in!
BOB Whaddya mean, come on in?!?
(stands up) It could be one-a doze
Jehovah’s Fitnesses characters
or worse. (walks toward stage
right)
MURRAY (steps onstage) Hey there Bob!
MARCIA Ohhhh, it’s Murray.
Hi Murray!
MURRAY Hi Marcia!
BOB Of course it’s Murray, dingbat.
How ya doin’, Murray?
MURRAY I’m actually doing great.
The Lord has blessed me tremendously.
BOB I see dat. You’re
puttin’ on weight, I see.
MURRAY Yeah, just a little.
MARCIA What’s that bag you got there?
Is that you’re gym bag?
BOB Yeah Murray—you gonna go lose some-a-dat blessing?
MURRAY No, no no…don’t you remember?
When we were playin’ cards last month, you both said I could stop
by and record your testimony for church.
BOB Oh….dat’s right…
MARCIA Yeah, I forgot all about it.
MURRAY This is my new HD Digital Video Camcorder.
Can I set it up over here?
BOB Oh, sure, sure… no problem.
MARCIA Does your camera use videotapes—we got lots of extra tapes if
you need them.
BOB It’s digital, Marcia.
Digital.
Digital means it don’t
need tapes.
MARCIA Ohhhh, I see.
BOB Murray: you need help wit dat ting?
MURRAY Nah, I got it. It’s pretty simple.
(sets the camera atop a mobile tripod)
There, we’re ready to go!
BOB Okay, so whaddya wan’ us to do?
MURRAY Okay… I will point at Marcia first, and when I do, Marcia,
please tell us the story just like you did last time, okay?
MARCIA Okay.
MURRAY 3, 2… 1.
MARCIA When Bob and I first met, we were so very young, and so very
much in love. We were
infatuated with each other.
We’d go for walks and talk about everything under the son, and we’d
talk about The Son, too—His Name is Jesus—and it was a
WONderful time in our lives.
See, even though Bob was older, and he already had a son, it didn’t
matter. Love covers all
things. We fell in love, and then we were married, and we had Joette.
About the time Joette was about a year old, Bob’s son was a
teenager... Ohhh, I
can’t say his name, it’s difficult remembering all this, and I don’t wanna
cry…
MURRAY It’s okay, Marcia….go ahead…
MARCIA Anyway, Bob’s son loved motorcycles, and finally bought one of
his own. One night he was out
riding with some friends and there was a
terrible accident… and Bob’s
son was killed.
That disaster just devastated Bob.
He became depressed, and our marriage fell apart.
We were actually divorced…
I had to get a job and several years later ended up working at the
same company as Bob, but I didn’t know it, because we worked different
shifts in different departments.
I met you there, Murray,
and when we took breaks and lunch together, all I talked about was Bob and
how I missed him…and how I still loved him.
Finally, one day you told me you knew Bob very well and you worked
with him in your previous position.
MURRAY Thanks Marcia. Bob,
are you ready?
BOB Yes sir.
MURRAY 3, 2… 1.
BOB I agree wit Marcia about when we first met.
We were so much in love.
I remember one time bringin’ her flowers an’ she
cried.
I thought she had an allergy or sometin’ and was gonna toss ‘em out
but she stopped me…she said she was just thankful.
We cried together.
Later, aroun’ da time we were divorced I lost my job.
It was a tough year all-da-way-aroun’.
I finally got a job workin’ wit’ Murray and we became great
friends. During one-a our
fishin’ trips, I told him how we were divorced and how I still loved
Marcia. Later, Murray had to start workin’ second shift so he could
volunteer more for church tings durin’ da week.
MURRAY How were you reunited?
BOB Finally, one day Marcia an’ I had a day off-a work on da same day,
and you—Murray—arranged for us to meet.
I’ll never forget dat day.
MARCIA Yeah… we just hugged and cried.
