Hurricane Katrina

Imminent storm warnings came
Over and over the officials begged
Thousands of people either couldn't leave
                                or chose to stay--
Then roaring wind, stinging water and giant wicked waves

For hours the storm crushed the cities and towns
Everything was trashed...roads, businesses and homes
Those thousands of people were trapped and forced to their roofs
Hundreds of people lost their lives, while others chose to loot or shoot

No power, no clean water, no fresh food, no phones
Those that survived lost everything... their pets, their homes
Dazed and depressed they meandered around with no place to go
Flooded streets made freeway overpasses a dry place to hold

Surrounded by such sadness, death, desperation and destruction
There still shines the hope of a new day of revival and reconstruction
