MIND = understanding/thoughts/intelligence (yellow)
STRENGTH = ability/might/flesh (blue)

Summary:
How the four characters interact and react to New Year Resolutions.

NARRATOR
Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one.

MIND
The Lord is one.  Okay, so we’re all in agreement on this one, right?

HEART
Yes.   He’s the One.

SOUL
Yes.  He’s the only One.

STRENGTH
YES.  Do YOU agree, Mind?

MIND
Yes, of course.  What else are we in agreement on?

NARRATOR
And you shall love the LORD your God--

HEART
with all your heart

SOUL
with all your soul--

MIND
with all your mind--

STRENGTH
and with all your strength. Yeah!

NARRATOR
This is the first commandment.

MIND
Thank you Narrator.

NARRATOR
You’re welcome.

MIND
So… my friends, what can we do to re-commit ourselves to The Lord and His kingdom’s cause in the New Year?   I can think of many things—and I ponder them all the time.  Here’s one: We need to study and memorize more of His Word.

HEART
That’s a good one, Mind. I have a passion for people:  I want us to love and reach out more to those precious lost people around us.  I feel like we don’t have much time.

SOUL
Amen!  Yet, everything we do needs much prayer, much praise and much worship.  Thank Him every day for the breath of life.  Plus, spending time with Jesus helps us build our relationship with Him, so we can then share our love for Him with others.

STRENGTH
All very good points, indeed.  Our New Year Resolution this year will be to take better care of this body—eat better food and get better rest.  Strength and energy are needed to physically do the things God asks us to do.   If we are tired and run down all the time, what good are we to God’s cause?

MIND
1:  Study God’s Word.  2:  Reach out to the Lost.  3:  Pray more.  4:  Take better care of our body.  Okay, so we’re all in agreement on these resolutions, right?

HEART
Yes.   We need to reach them.

SOUL
Yes.  With much prayer.

STRENGTH
YES.  We need to be strong for The Lord.  Do YOU agree, Mind?

MIND
Yes, of course.  Okay, now it’s time to sleep—I’m sure Strength would agree with that idea!

STRENGTH
Yeah…
Mind, while the other two are napping, I’ve been meaning to talk to you about something.

MIND
What’s up?

STRENGTH
Rumor has it that Soul wants to start a fasting program in the New Year.  I say, “No way.”  We need food for energy and strength.  Fasting robs us of the energy we need to do all these things, right?

MIND
On that point we disagree.  Fasting actually is good for the body.  By restricting food intake for a short period of time, it allows the body to get rid of toxins that are harmful to the body.

STRENGTH
Mind, you are always the logical one. Okay, if we do start this fasting program, I will still be in disagreement.  I will resist with stomach growling and horrible headaches and general body pain.

MIND
All of which are normal!  I am waking the others now.  Keep your disagreement to yourself, okay?

STRENGTH
We shall see!  Remember—growling and headaches and pain, oh my!

MIND
Oh my is right.  Okay, they’re awake.  One more thing—Narrator, what do you have for us?

NARRATOR
And the second commandment, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

HEART
See—that confirms what I was saying before—we need to love and reach out to the people around us.

SOUL
And—we can pray for them, and pray with them.  Everyone needs prayer.

STRENGTH
And we will need much strength to do any of it.  Strength needs more and more food.

MIND
Now, Strength, please don’t go there.  You will upset Heart and Soul.

HEART
About what?

SOUL
What is Strength saying?

MIND
He was disagreeing with me on something during sleep time.

STRENGTH
I resist this plan to fast more this year.  Hey—we need strength and food equals strength.  What’s the big deal?

HEART
The big deal, Strength, is fasting frees us to reach the lost.

SOUL
And losing some weight helps us breathe easier.

STRENGTH
Okay… I give in…  Just a little.

MIND
Strength!
